DIY Oversized Wood Prayer Beads

February 8, 2021

I have loved the oversized wood prayer beads for so long but could never justify the large price tag that came with them, so I decided the only way to get them into my home was to make them myself! They were super simple to make and came in at $60, I seriously can’t believe it took me this long to make them.

Here is a list of the supplies I used:

  • 81 – 1.2 inch wooden beads {you can find them here}
  • Large Wooden Heart {Picked up a local home décor store but they also had similar ones at Micheal’s and on Etsy}
  • Jute/Twine
  • Small Eye Hook
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Paint Brush
I used 81 beads in total to get the length I wanted, but you could use more or less to work in your space. I also chose to do a white wash on mine, but again you could easy leave them neutral or paint them any colour to suit your decor!
This part was the most time consuming, but I’m so glad I took the time to paint them, as most of our furniture is a neutral grey toned wood so the finished prayer beads really pop against almost every surface I would style them on.
I screwed the small eye hook right in the centre of the heart, then looped the jute through, then I pulled both strands through a single bead, double knotted it then separated the jute and strung the remaining beads equally on each side, simply knotted once finished and cut the remaining string.

I absolutely love how they turned out, I am so glad I decided to do the white washed look on the wood. Such a simple DIY, that makes such a big statement, I can’t wait to style them in different areas of my home!
