A Tisket a Tasket, there’s Wine in my Basket!
Happy Monday, hope you all had a great weekend! I had a fun little get together this past weekend with some lovely ladies, we headed out to Chaberton Estate Winery for a catch up, picnic lunch and of course a glass of wine or two. I thought I would share a little about it, located in the Fraser Valley, the winery is the oldest in the area, you can book and tour the winery, enjoy a meal at Baccus Bistro, partake in a wine sampling at the tasting room, or visit the picnic area.
Before heading out we put together little grazing boxes for everyone joining us, at the winery you are welcome to bring your picnic, as well as they have snacks and items available to purchase if you want to pull together a little grazing plate or charcuterie while you are there. For our boxes my sister and I made them up at my place before we headed out to the winery. They worked out perfectly, turned out adorable and of course were tasty too!
All the perfect little bites, tucked in the cutest little window boxes and ready to enjoy. We did a scone, with individual cream cheese and mini jams, little fruit skewers, a croissant stuffed with whipped herbed cream cheese and cucumber slices, little meat and cheese skewers, and finally little packaged crackers and shortbread cookies.
When you arrive at the winery if you plan to go to the picnic area I recommend checking in with the hostesses there and getting a table. It gets pretty busy so earlier is sometimes better, or put your name down and head inside for a tasting until your table is ready. There is a two hour time limit for the picnic tables, which is a perfect amount of time to catch up with friends, or enjoy a little date day, or you could always continue your day of wine tasting and pop out to the other wineries in the area.
I finished off the little grazing boxes with bamboo cutlery, pretty napkin, some laid back snacks, tied with jute and a little sprig of lavender from the home garden to top it off. Once the boxes were all in place it was time to head inside and pick my wine flight! Such a fun way to do a little tasting, some of the ladies ordered a bottle of wine that you can enjoy in the picnic area, glasses provided and then you can take home what you don’t finish. I lean towards white wine, so I did a flight of the Sauvignon Blanc, Madeleine Sylvaner, Siegerrebe, and the Chaberton Pink. I enjoyed all of them but was a big fan of the Madeleine Sylvaner and the Siegerrebe, so much so that I took home a bottle of each. I also highly recommend their Pinot Gris it is the prettiest pale coral pink tone, which is different compared to many Pinot Gris the colour is due to the grapes being cold soaked on the skins, it is one of my favourites from the winery.
So there you have it a tisket a tasket, there was definitely wine in my basket! I hope you enjoyed my little recap on my picnic winery weekend, would love to hear if you have ever been. If you haven’t I highly recommend heading over for a little day out, tucked under an umbrella, enjoying a little laughter and of course a glass of your favourite wine {or maybe two!}.
